Week 1 - Mostly Crockpot!

Hi friends!

I hope this little post will help you busy friends, mamas running on little to no sleep, and cooking newbs like myself.

I'll try my best to get the weekly meals I plan on here to save you all some time. It won't be perfect but at least it's a start! :) I tend to make alot of each thing so that there's leftovers for lunch the next day. I also go meatless (for the most part) and this saves TONS on the grocery bill and makes up for the lack of exercise we do :) haha

Let me know if you end up using any of the recipes and feel free to leave a comment to share how they turned out!! If you end up using Walmart grocery, we both get $10 off our next purchase! Use: http://r.wmt.co/ggumJ for the reference! :)

My Real Life First Mother's Day

"What time is it?" I ask Britt."2:30AM."

Longing for sleep, I pull my fussing baby towards me.

I nurse her, kiss her, and run my fingertips from the crown of her head to the tip of her nose, gently persuading her to close her eyes and go back to sleep. It works.

I fall back asleep and wake up the next morning, full of energy and ready to tackle the day.

HA.

HAHAHA.

AHAHAHAHA.

No, I'm kidding. It's 3:30am and it feels as if I'll never sleep again.

After an hour of keeping my eyes closed, but feeling wide awake, I go to the kitchen and eat a banana-oatmeal-blueberry muffin.

I study Matthew Chapter 6. It's 34 verses have started to etch themselves deeper onto my heart.

I don't know what else to do at 3:30, so I've started writing this blog to help my future self see some progress.

One day, future self, Rylynn will eat on her own. She'll sleep for a normal amount of time. She'll take care of her own bathroom business. She may even have her own children that she'll get to be a mama to.

Lots of memories will be made. You'll be the sweetest, and the meanest, and the dumbest, and the smartest person she'll be around. Ebbs and flows, mama, ebbs and flows.

Sure, this is not exactly how you pictured motherhood, because there's not a ton of films capturing a groggy mom in a living room at 4am, eating a "healthy" muffin that tastes mediocre at best.

But guess what, this is real life. And it's your life. And remember how you never even thought motherhood was even possible? Well it's here, and it's full force.

It's beautiful, and difficult, and exhausting, and time consuming, and wonderful, and such a sweet gift.

Enjoy these moments, current self, because they will someday be terribly missed.

*** Shout out to Britt for letting me get some naps, a massage, breakfast in bed (Egg's Benedict), sweet gifts, and much more this weekend. He takes care of me and Ry like crazy, and I'm sure my mind would be nearly lost without his sweet love for me. Other than waking up at 2:30, this was the best first Mother's Day a girl could ask for. Love you, Britt. ***

Confession

Secret sin, confession, and grace have been very prevalent topics in these last few weeks for me.

During a marriage class at church, the speakers couldn't help but spend a good amount of time on secret sin, and how it not only destroys the person keeping the secret, but how it affects the spouse or significant other that they are keeping it from.

The couple leading the class pleaded with us all to share any secret we hadn't yet shared with our spouses. Even if it was something that happened to us/that we did a long time ago. Let light shine on it, process it, and get any help, if needed.

Although I feel Britt and I have a very healthy communication process, there have been times over the past 7 years where we've both struggled with something that felt embarrassing or sinful, and we knew it would be a hard thing to share with one another. We knew that those secret sins could possibly hurt the other person, but we wanted to be accountable to God and to each other, and so we shared. Tearfully, embarrassingly, timidly, we shared.

I think one of the most beautiful things that I've learned from those experiences is that, by God's grace, he's given me a husband that reflects Christ so well. Even in my sin, Britt listens, forgives, and welcomes me lovingly into his arms.

Last night, in an assignment entitled, "Practicing the Sovereignty of God", all of us training program/seminary students were asked to spend 2-3 hours alone, with no distractions, no other people around...just ourselves, a Bible, and a journal.

Stick with me here, it'll all come full circle.

I decided to read through Hebrews. We are working through Exodus for the next year in our church sermons, and Hebrews gets to look back at a lot of what was happening in Exodus.

It talks about the old and new covenants, why the tabernacle was so important, the Holy of Holies, and how Jesus parallels to it all. It was exciting, rich, and a seemingly new text for me. I don't think I've given myself time to sit and read a full book of the Bible in one sitting, but man, I was so encouraged.

Here's where it comes full circle for me...I came across Hebrews 4:12-16....

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Verse 16, ya'll!!! WITH CONFIDENCE, let us draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
May we confess our sins to Jesus, (not that he doesn't already know them! Vs. 13), but that when we do....we will find mercy and grace!

The enemy's main purpose is to destroy us. He wants to separate us and isolate us in our sin. For believers, though, we are given a high priest who is gracious, merciful, and sympathetic. He doesn't want us to feel isolated, but rather invites us to draw near.

It may be harder to confess your secret sin to a person, but if that person is a believer, they are called to be like Christ! Gracious, forgiving, merciful.

If you are the person on the receiving end of a confession, may you be quick to remember how gracious and forgiving Jesus has been to you, so that you may be that for someone else. Imitate our Savior, giving glory to God even in difficult circumstances.

So friends, may we confess where we are weak and struggle. May we know that the God who created us, cares for us so much that he gave us His Son, a sympathetic high priest. Tempted in every respect, yet without sin. May we confidently draw near to Him, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.

To him Him be the glory forever. Amen.

Random Memories I'd Not Like To Forget...

When I was 16 my mom was involved in a car accident that took her Home.

When she stepped off the curb, she never saw that bus coming! (Kidding)

I know it's weird to joke about something like that....but she actually used the same line when people asked how her mom passed away in order to spare the sad and unnecessary details.

I can only tease about something like this, because God has been so gracious to me and has really brought me to a place in life that I feel very healed and at peace with my situation.

This wasn't the case 10 years ago...man...I don't even want to get in to how insanely horrible and shattered my world felt back then.

God has allowed me to forget a good part of what overwhelmed and almost broke me, and has graciously allowed me to remember how he drew close to me and provided "normalcy" in a time of need.

I say "normalcy" because it didn't stay that way for long.

Jamie was my Student Government Leader and also taught at my highschool. She had her whole desk covered in Young Life paraphernalia and, because I have 15,000 questions for everything, I started asking about what is was. One thing led to another, and I started going to YL club in Ft. Myers, Fl where I met a bunch of really sweet girls who I had a lot in common with.

Coincidentally, TWO other girls had come from homes where their mother had died and their fathers were pastors who had also left the church. It was great to have support and friendship...so I kept going.

During this time, my home life was struggling and Jamie took notice. She invited me over for dinner after Young Life and I started volunteering to babysit for her.

I realized that she really cared about me when she wasn't actually leaving during the times that she had asked me to babysit. (Oh man....a bunch of water just leaked into my eyes....keep it together...)

She just wanted to spend time with me and she knew that I needed a motherly figure at my young and fragile age.

We ate popcorn, shared laughs, hugs, and tears, and she pretty much adopted me into her family for the next two years of high school until I graduated.

She fed me A LOT , patiently waited for me to mature, and seriously, SERIOUSLY spoiled me with Rib City's Cheesy Waffle fries.

It was no longer her and her husband...they generously took me everywhere and never, ever made me feel like "it wasn't a good time".

(Can I just say... I've tried recreating this feeling for others, and it's really friggin hard. I'm so dang selfish, for real, for real. I have no clue how they did it for so long.)

When her husband, Aaron, started a Wyld Life program at a middle school near my house, I volunteered to be a leader. I was able to pour into little puberty-stricken, confused middle schoolers and tell them God loved them just the way they were. It was awesome. And a little awkward at times.

After I went to camp as a high-school student, I went the following summer as a leader.

Loved it.

Volunteered for two more summers at two different YL camps.

Poured my life into kids that came from the bottom of the barrel. Saw some of them come to Christ. Saw some of them not, but loved them anyway.

Started a Bible Study/morning group with the high-school girls I had taken to camp that summer.

Woke up early to give them breakfast and the Word. Best mornings ever.

By this time, I was in my first and second years of college.

I was living in St. Augustine, and Jamie and Aaron were living about an hour away. I visited them when I could, and loved having "family" so close.

It was around that time that their son, Parker, had been seen by several different doctors for sickness, which turned out to be Leukemia.

I rushed to the hospital that held him, and pretty much stayed there for the next 9 months. I scraped by that college semester, but I didn't care. I lived at the Ronald McDonald House next to the Arnold Palmer Hospital. We took shifts so that Aaron could still work (his drive was about an hour, each way).

We watched Disney movies on loop, pulled a red wagon around the only floor of the hospital we could go on. His IV followed closely behind.

His body swelled, and when the needles pricked him, he would tell the nurses, "Tank you."

We got to spend our last days with him at Disney World and Animal Kingdom.

We got to wake up at Animal Kingdom Resort and show him the giraffes outside his window.

These were very personal, very intimate times that the family could have asked to have and share all by themselves.

Instead, I was there. Crying. Confused. Trying to enjoy our last moments with sweet Parker.

This was a family who truly loved me and treated me like one of there own, often times more than my own family could at that point in our lives.

It has been years since this all took place, and God is still working in both of our families lives. We still keep in touch and send each other sweet encouragements.

Jamie has become a dear friend, a person who has seriously seen the worse parts of me, and has shown me grace, compassion, and friendship even still.

I guess the reason I wanted to write this down tonight is because it's a very important piece of my life that so few people know about. There are so many more details that I'd love to share, but I would be writing for forever if I did.

I also wrote this down, because there's a child that I heard about that is involved in a very bad family situation right now. My immediate reaction was to offer our home, but it wouldn't be allowed here for so many reasons.

All of this to say...I think there is probably at least one person in your life who has impacted you greatly. Maybe just write down how they did...Share your story! How cool is it that God used Jamie and her family to ultimately glorify Him? They poured in to me, I poured in to others, and the cycle continues.

Friday with my Father

Friday's were his day off.

(Let him sleep in. Let him rest.)

He would take me to breakfast every Friday morning.

First, he would teach me how to love, and how I should be loved. (Burger King Croissants, Quality time.)

He would teach me how to love others. ("Let's bring one for your teacher, too!")

He would teach me about how time was precious. (Park, sign in, hold my hand, pray with me, walk me to the door.)

He would teach me the value of hard work. (Mow the lawn, dig fences, serve others.)

He would teach me how to how fun. (Movie dates, TGIF, Ice-cream, and Shirley Temple re-runs.)

He would teach me comedic timing. (Nothing's funnier than a perfectly-timed toot.)

He would teach me sacrifice. (Spending his only day off to pour into his family.)

Friday's were his day off.

And the newest adventure iiiiissss.........

Hi friends,

It's been to long. I hope you're doing well!

I have started a new challenge for myself.

I used to write poetry all the time and it's been several years since I've been at it.

I came across a poetry challenge that kind of helps you get your creative juices flowing by giving you a few different ideas to write about each day.

I know I'm a little rusty and everything may not turn out as epic or beautiful as I hope, but I'm at least going to try! :)

The start of my newest adventure...poetry...who knew! :)

Here's a little bit of what I wrote today:

I have known a heavy hand
and I have known a gentle man.

I have seen a flower bloom
and I have watched a soul wane.

I have heard a child's laugh
and I have heard my father's cry.

And I have loved.
And I have felt.
And I have lived.

My Funny Valentine

Britt Holmes is hands-down, the funniest person I've ever met.

I just can't help but to smile when I'm around him.

Here's a recap of our silliness and love over the years! :)

To the man who knows my flaws, and loves me despite them.
I love you so.

Once Upon a Time...

Once upon a time there lived a very small girl.

She loved to play, ride her bike, and pretend to be a teacher since the age of 5.

That girl grew up loving the Lord. Not many of her friends did, though...and that was really hard for her.

Although she had a few crushes here and there, she wouldn't date any boy who didn't already pursue Christ.

This left her spending loads of time plugged into churches, ministries, and school.

One day God opened up a potential door for her in Texas, which was the last place on Earth she could ever want to possibly live.

When she moved to Texas, that door closed. She was left with no friends or family anywhere nearby.

Another door opened at Bible School down the road from where she lived.

She would obviously hate it and rebel against normalcy of this podunk Texas school. Not because she didn't love the Lord, but because their rules were stupid.

Then, this girl met a really cool group of friends.

One friend in particular really sparked her interest and they began hanging out everyday, whether the rest of the group was with them or not.

After months of genuinely enjoying each other's friendship, the girl and her best guy friend began dating with the intent to marry.

They loved each other very much, and even though the school's rules were stupid, they both realized they were rules set in place for very specific reasons. So they respected and submitted to what the school asked of them.

Praise God for "stupid rules".

On their one year anniversary, her very best friend proposed to her in a profoundly special and romantic way.

She said yes, and 7 months later wedded him. It was God's grace that kept them pure until they said "I do."

Soon, they'd both be finishing college, and were praying about God's calling on their life.

When the pair felt strongly to reach the 99% non-believing nation of Japan, they asked for God's wisdom and provision.

Boy, did He answer! Within 8 months of her college graduation  and 1 month after his, they were given an incredible opportunity to move to Sendai, Japan.

They worked in a place that was far more beautiful then they could have ever imagined. They got to work together and love on the children and people of Japan.

They worked hard and knew that all good things came from the Lord.

They were incredibly grateful for opportunity they'd been given wanted to spend the rest of their days pursuing Christ's calling on their life.

For now, you can still catch them holding hands, sneaking besitos, and asking for a table for futari in their new homeland of Sendai.

Onsens and Other New Adventures

Hi friends!

I thought I'd be posting pictures and blogs like crazy here in Japan, but it is a little tricky right now. I think when we get an iPhone set up, it will be much easier to post/share photos with everyone!

Things have been going great here, and I am genuinely enjoying my job. I love that I get to talk to my kids about the Lord, and I love that I get to see them being excited about coming to school!

For a quick recap of the month:

-Our favorite sushi place is about 5 min walking distance from our house and we love it!

-Our date nights usually include dinner and going to Book-Off in downtown Sendai, which is a giant resale shop. (I should mention that people here only wear certain clothes when they are "in season", unlike Americans that wear their clothes until there's holes in them! lol) So all the clothes there are SUPER nice, hardly worn, and really cheap!)

-We should be starting our Japanese lessons in the next month.

-We went out for some karaoke (a Japanese staple) and it was funner than I expected! I even sang some Adele with a few other co-workers, and yes....We brought the house down!! :)

-Britt and I have both lost weight, but I don't know how much yet...our clothes are fitting looser...thanks to the tons of rice we eat and the WAY smaller portion sizes!

-The desserts here are incredible. I enjoy them on the daily.

-It has snowed almost everyday since we've been here. Walking to work with our snow gear/snow boots on is officially normal now.

-Right now it is in the 40's and it feels warm. THAT is really weird to say.

-Some of my favorite mornings are when I pass the little toddlers on their way to school. "Ohayōgozaimasu" (good morning) and "Kon'nichiwa" (hello) are so much cuter when they come out of a 4 year old's mouth! lol

-We went to an Onsen, and though I thought it was the weirdest thing I'd ever agreed to at first....it ended up being incredibly relaxing and enjoyable! Here are some pictures of Onsens/public bath houses/hot springs. It's where guys and girls separate by gender and relax in hot water for hours and hours.
SO AWESOME!

Come visit! :) Sayōnara!

Kon'nichiwa!

Hi friends!
I know its been awhile since my last post, but I had a few minutes and I wanted to say hi again!
First off-we've been in living in Japan for almost 2 weeks now! I wish all of you could come live here, it's incredible!

I want to brag about my new school and friends, but I feel like I've done that a bunch on Facebook already, so I'll just summarize by saying....BEST. DECISION. EVER. (Other than marriage, of course!)

We were a bit under the weather our first week here, but we're almost up to speed now! We went to the doctor and in Japan you get a pill for each symptom you have! So we ended up taking about 5-7 pills, twice a day. Guess how much our doctor visit & medicine was for the both of us? ......about $25 TOTAL!! (Thanks national health care!) It took less than an hour for everything too! Praise God!!

We have been going all around Sendai, and we even went to a new church today! We will try out all the English-speaking churches, and then hopefully find one that we can get plugged in at. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, its been such an easy/pleasant transition here! :)

A quick story, and then I need to head to bed.....
We went to the international center the other day to sign up for Japanese lessons. Well, when I was washing my hands in the restroom, there was a mom with 4 little girls. They all smiled at me and the mom pressed the oldest one (about 6 yrs old) towards me and said something that made the girl talk to me! lol....She said, "Kon'nichiwa!". So I politely said..."Kon'nichiwa, Hello! Watashi wa Brittany desu!" Then I pointed at her sister's and her to get their names. They were so excited and they treated me like I was a celebrity! It was so adorable!

I can't wait to learn more Japanese and go exploring around the country. I already feel so at home, and I'm so glad I get to experience this with my best friend! So thankful that Britt and I get to work and play together, and SO excited for our kids to grow up here! (No, I'm not pregnant, but I will be someday...and we don't plan on leaving here anytime soon! :)

Love and miss you all, but having a blast here too!!

Oh! BTW! If you send us American care packages, we'll send you one full of awesome Japanese stuff too!

Ideas for us are: Little Debbie snacks (oatmeal cream pies, swiss cake rolls, starcrunch, etc., brownie mix (the bag would be fine/probably easier to send), Fruity pebbles, Trix, Rotel, Velvetta, Dry pinto beans, Cumin, Xbox live giftcard....aaannddd that's all I can think of for now!

I'm sorry

When I look back at the friendships I've made and squandered I wonder, "What happened there?". I wonder if I took opportunities to encourage and uplift my friends. I wonder if I was overly-judgmental about their life choices. I wonder if I was as patient with them as they were with me.

It's important that I do this, because it's so easy for me to get caught up in thinking that everyone else an idiot, wishing they were all on the same page as me with what's right and wrong. My opinions tend to become "what is right" instead of just an opinion. Others become more and more susceptible to failing in my eyes.

As a follower of Christ, I hate that I have these feelings towards others. I want to see the best in everyone, extend grace, patience, mercy, forgiveness, and love. Yet I find myself still treating my closest friends as if they could never live up to MY standards.

Well, where did MY standards come from anyway? I know these things for sure:

1) We are born sinful. No sane person teaches kids to bite, or to be selfish when they are two. No, the words "Mine" seem to find their own way to the lips of toddlers, selfishly declaring what is theirs. So there you have it- I have been sinful and selfish since birth.

2) My background, what and how I was taught, has influenced me the most. Someone is tardy? Then they are lazy/poor time managers. Someone talked back? No respect for others. What? They didn't say "thank you"? Ungrateful. Someone drinks? SIN. Someone has sex? UNFORGIVABLE- that's for marriage only! How could you! Gay? Don't even get me started...

Condemnation waiting for you at every turn. (I'll address this in a minute)

3) The Bible is my ultimate authority. I know some of my standards are based on emotion or opinion, but ultimately, I strive to meet the standards that are asked of me in the Word.

That said, I will address the issues with point 2.
Somewhere in between the mix of old church folk, my peers, and spankins', my view of people who were sinful got completely distorted. Never-mind the fact that I thought I was the only one in the world who barely sinned. (Making it that much easier to judge those around me!)

I had no tolerance, and no grace to extend to those that fell short. I believed that once you turned your back on God, he would turn his back on you. He was ready to boot you out of His kingdom if you said the "F" word one more time!! But obviously, the reality of it was that I had made myself god. I had made my standards and opinions, the ULTIMATE say so. (Cough, heresy, cough cough)

How wrong and sinful was I? Does the Bible not also say that we ALL fall short of the glory of God. We wrestle with sin on a daily basis. It is not, and was not my job to search and know people's hearts; To make known and rehash their sins to them; to make them feel the way I did.

Yes, God has specifically spoken to certain characteristics, and yes, as Christians we are to pursue Christ and strive to be like him. But there is grace, forgiveness, and healing that is offered in Jesus' name. We will sin. We will struggle- but God is constantly wooing us back to Himself.

He is just, and there is consequences to a life lived without Him, but as long as our heart and eyes are fixed on Christ, he will be there faithfully throughout every season, every hour, and every second of our lives.

Even as I write this, feeling so undeserving because of how I've portrayed Christ, I know that He knows my heart, has forgiven me, and has called me to repentance. I have been making progress slowly but surely, and for now I just want to apologize to anyone reading this who I've treated badly. I am truly sorry and I hope that, in my repentance you can see that Christ can even use crazies like me to spread His Word.

On a similar note...
As Britt and I prepare for Japan, God has really been transforming my heart and preparing me to know that there will most likely be a resistance to people when we begin to share the gospel. People will not be like me. Not only in their morals, but with the God's they serve and the lifestyle they live.
I pray that I will genuinely be able to accept people the way they are, and that they would do the same for me.

I pray that they would realize that God wants them now exactly as they are, and not the future unattainable perfected versions of themselves. All I can ask is for God's divinity to be at work, and for ears to be open to the Good News, for myself and for others.

I love you guys,
B

Chicago and Japan

I'm gonna try to make this quick because I'm supposed to be packing right now...but I just wanted to get some thoughts out (ok-procrastinate, call it what you will).

First things first, our trip to Chicago was so fun! Our recruiters flew us up there for the second round of interviews....75 down to 25 people...so we're very hopeful!  We bought CityPasses and were able to have 3 full days of adventure! :)

We got to see a Planetarium, Aquarium, 2 Museums, and the SkyDeck! This is the 8th tallest standing structure in the world, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere....we're talking higher than the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower....MADNESS! They have this glass box that sticks out of the building and its pretty stinkin' scary at first, but once you get used to it...its super fun to stand in and look out over the city!

Our interviews went really well and we felt blessed just to even be considered for the teaching positions. Britt and I both interviewed separately and then came together briefly with everyone at the end of the 2 hrs. It was one of the most exciting/nerve-racking/intimidating things I've ever done, but I really hope it will bring us closer to ministering to the people of Japan! :)

Please keep us in your prayers! If we get the job in November, we will head out for Japan on February 1st!

I am now working as an office assistant for a Mortgage Company in Dallas, which is very different from teaching, but I am learning a lot about Refinancing and Purchasing homes! lol

Britt will be graduating December 7th and is learning so much in his classes. Its fun to hear him talk eagerly about all the new things he's learning about the Bible and Theology/Philosophy. I'm glad I have a husband who loves the Lord and pursues Him wholeheartedly!

Lastly, we are moving into a 2-bedroom apartment right downstairs in our complex! I'm SOOO excited about this because they have just put in a dishwasher, have re-painted the entire place, and are putting in brand new carpet this week! Honestly-I'm just ready to have a dishwasher!! BOOOO hand washing dishes!! BOOOO standing at the sink for an hour!! YAAAAYYY dish-washer....we are ready to love you!! :) haha....oh man, two years of hand-washing dishes is HISTORY!!! (Can you tell this is the chore I hate the most??)

Ok- I know I was trying to make this short, but oh well! Glad we could meet again and catch up! :)

New Seasons

Have you ever met someone who you just genuinely enjoyed being around? (Other than a spouse, relative, etc.)
Me too....and when you're married, its not always easy to find other couples that both the husband and wife enjoy being around.

Well a few years ago I met Zoe Bell at SAGU and our mutual hatred for a specific class we were in AND the fact that we were both getting married soon  joined us in a new friendship that I'm sure neither one of us were expecting!

Zoe and I both went to each others bridal shower, which lead to exchanging numbers, which lead to her asking about our apartments, which then lead to her and her Micah moving into our complex literally right down the hall.

Eventually one thing lead to another, and after an EPIC game night with a few of our other close buddies, Britt and I both knew that Zoe and Micah were two awesome people.

After a whole year of pranks, adventures, gaming, REALLY REALLY late night talks, dinners, movies, and lots of other great quality time together.....sadly, it is all coming to an end. Our sweet friends are moving back to San Antonio to be with their families and to follow in the direction that God is leading them to in this new season of their life.

It will be so sad to see them go, but I feel so blessed to have had such a unique friendship with such great people. I know we'll all stay in touch and be lifelong friends-but there will still be a little void in Waxahachie now.

Zo- don't worry, I'll always let you know if it still smells like fajitas/weed/The Collector on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and if the new lady moving into your apartment likes it when we leave old junk on her doorstep. (Something tells me she's not gonna like it very much, but who knows....maybe she'll be a good sport! lol)

We love you guys and will definitely miss you! Thanks for being so incredible! :)

Bad Dreams

This morning I woke up at 6:15 on the dot.
I woke up because I was hit in the head (in my dreams-not in real life!) and it freaked me out! I jolted really hard and woke up with chills all over!

So here's a brief version of the dream:
My sister was visiting me and Britt at our apartment.
We were all sitting on different parts of the bed just talking and it was getting later and later.
The way I was sitting made my legs "fall asleep" and they were getting all tingly.
All of the sudden I heard this loud bang on the front door.
Britt and Amy think its the neighbors slamming their door, but I get a really bad feeling and I think its something worse.
I try to get off the bed to go see whats going on, but because my legs have fallen asleep I fall face-first into the ground as my legs collapse like jello beneath me.
The banging thrashes again and I feel the vibration on the ground as I try to fumble my way towards the living room.
Right before I am able to make it to the door, it is flung wide open by 2-3 men who look like the police.
However, they are not the police. They are robbers.
I try to yell to warn Britt and Amy but its too late because our apartment is tiny, so the men have already made it to the bedroom.
Fear rushes over me, and I cannot defend myself.
I try to get up but one of the men hits me in the head with the same metal instrument that he used to knock down our door.
A stream of blood runs down my face, I black out.

END OF DREAM.
I jolt wide awake at 6:15am with chills covering my whole self.
I am terrified and I go check the locks on our door.
Then I pray...hard. I pray for God to wash me of this dream and of the fear it brought with it.
I pray that God would protect me and my family.
Then I think about buying a baseball bat. (Should there be any real-life intruders.)

Do you ever find yourself in situations like this?

"God please help me to trust you. God please protect my family/finances/etc."
But then we go and find the answer ourselves?

I trust You, but I'm buying a bat just in-case you don't exist or don't come through for me.

I trust You, but I trust myself more.

(If you're still reading at this point, thank you...I know this feels a bit lengthy.)

I'll try to wrap up by saying this:
God does exist. He is faithful to his promises, and we need to be able to fully put our trust in him.

His word says in Isaiah 12:2, " “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”

I must trust without my guard up and know that God is in control.

I long to trust without any hindrances and any doubts. I pray that you would too.

Grace and Peace,
Brittany

Everlasting

Hello friends,
It's been awhile. I hope this post finds you well, and that you'd forgive me for taking so long to start writing again. On we go...

I've been thinking about the Fruits of the Spirit lately.
(Nicole's mom's tune, aka "Where Is Thumbkin")
..."Love joy peace, love joy peace,
 patience, kindness goodness,
 patience, kindness goodness,
 faithfulness, and gentleness,
 faithfulness and gentleness...self-con-trol.

I know I probably haven't developed these characteristics in their fullness at this point in my life, but I genuinely try to remind myself of them often. This week in particular has been a bit tiring for me, and I've just felt like BLAH. I'm apathetic, a bit sad, a bit worried, and just a hint of edgy.

I know my anxiety kicks in in times like this....a new season, frantically looking for a new job before the school year starts, new bills, new stress, and Britt having to work longer hours at his job. All of this just weighs on me, and its very hard for me to handle.

OK-back to the Fruits of the Spirit. One of them in particular stuck out to me today. Faithfulness.
To me, that entails being faithful in all aspects of my life. Being a faithful wife, friend, family member, employee, and most importantly being faithful to God.

In Greek, this word faithfulness is synonymous with trustworthiness.

I'll let that sink in.

The anxieties that I have and the burdens that I face are not simply mine to handle. I need to be faithful and trust that God will help me in every second of every day.

God has given me this life, these abilities, and my surroundings......does He not know what I face? Has he not promised His restoration for my soul? Indeed He has and will continue to. Indeed, he does not let the storm rage over me, but instead leads me beside still waters. Neither anxiety or fear are promised to follow me, but goodness and mercy will follow and cover me all the days of my life.

Even as I write this I know that God's love for us pours through His Word, and reassures me that my faithfulness is something of great importance in my walk with Christ.

What's even greater is that even when I lack in my faithfulness, God never lacks in His.

Faithfulness everlasting....

incredible.

Rest

Hello any and all people who are still reading this sad little blog!

You may or may not be wondering why I haven't blogged since Christmas.

Well, allow me to explain.

This semester has been NON-STOP! Seriously, it's crazy!

I started my student teaching and I'm also still working so my days start at 6am and go all the way til about 7:30pm. Luckily I can rest a bit when I'm nannying because the kids are older, but it's still a process that I'm getting used to. My nights are spent eating, and finishing my online classwork, and then I'm usually in bed by 9pm. (That's right-I'm home for an hour and a half and then I'm in bed! What have I turned into??? My parents???)

So Saturdays are my days to catch up on groceries and housework and time spent with my husband. He helps with everything throughout the week, so I just kind of tidy up here and there. It's so wonderful that his schedule allows a little extra down time during the day so he can start meals in the Crock Pot and grab random groceries that we are low on! Thank God for a great husband! :)

So that's really it.....my excuse for not keeping up the blog is that there is just literally no time. I almost feel bad that I'm writing this now instead of cleaning up around the house! lol....I know I will be able to catch everyone up on stuff that I missed once I graduate, but until then....I probably won't get another chance to blog! I have great pictures of exciting events I want to show you-and Crock Pot cooking that I adore!! So be prepared for the next blog!! :)

(Student teaching is going great, by the way! This kids are awesome and I totally feel right at home! My teachers that I'm interning with are pro's and both have been teaching for over 25 years! Such an incredible experience for me...but I can't wait to graduate!! On April 27, there will be a huge grin on my face all day, I'm sure!!) :D

Love you all! Pray for me!

Grace and Peace,
Brittany
